The city had cooled down quite a bit during our absence and the temperature was far more pleasant. Autumn, or Fall as the Americans say, is fast approaching.  My last few days were spent shopping and walking around the streets - We went to Barnes and Noble which is the equivalent of Exclusive Books in South Africa but the difference is that the New York store is an entire building with several floors - a book lovers paradise!  The other thing that I will always remember is that Eighties music was played in most restaurants, stores and coffee shops - and I loved that!  I was again treated to dinner at an upmarket diner and even got out of my comfort zone by trying an oyster.  ( Not too bad!) We also eventually got to walk over Brooklyn Bridge and wander around the streets of Brooklyn and the water front which was very picturesque.  The skyline of Manhattan is indeed an impressive sight from the Brooklyn shore. Interesting too was a Carousel that had been restored ( 1928) and in use for children and adults to enjoy.  A lunch at an Israeli restaurant  called ‘The 12 Chairs’ was a lovely experience and the food mouth watering - I especially enjoyed the Labaneh ( yoghurt cheese with olive oil and origanum pesto)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        and the fresh pita bread with beetroot, feta, coriander and pine nuts, lamb kebabs and fresh salads. A bar lunch at Kirsty and Kevin’s local was enjoyed as well and I always enjoy the walk through the streets with so much going on all around. All too soon my last night was upon me and after packing, to bed with the prospect of sad goodbyes and a long flight back to South Africa.  My USA trip was everything and more than I had expected and the memories of all the places I was privileged to see will linger and never be forgotten. The highlight for me was undoubtedly experiencing the Grand Canyon in the manner we did, and of course spending  such special time with Kirsty and Kevin. It may be farewell but I hope to be back some day,I would love to experience the lower half of the Canyon!
